INTEGRIS Health and Stanson Health Partner to Advance Value-Based Care: Streamlining Workflows and Enhancing Documentation

Key Takeaways:

  • INTEGRIS Health sought to improve hierarchical condition category (HCC) coding accuracy, streamline workflows and reduce provider burden as part of its value-based care (VBC) efforts.
  • The health system partnered with Premier’s Stanson Health to implement its HCC Coding Clinical Decision Support module, that helps providers accurately capture diagnoses without adding unnecessary complexity and burden to workflows.
  • INTEGRIS achieved significant provider adoption, far surpassing typical benchmarks. This streamlined approach has improved documentation accuracy, reduced alert fatigue and allowed care teams to stay focused on delivering high-quality care.

Healthcare organizations are continuously seeking ways to improve both patient care and operational efficiency. As value-based care (VBC) initiatives expand, the ability to manage workflows effectively, document accurately and leverage timely, actionable data becomes more critical. INTEGRIS Health, Oklahoma’s largest not-for-profit health system, recognized the opportunity to enhance documentation practices and support providers with better technology tools.

To advance these efforts, INTEGRIS partnered with Premier’s Stanson Health to implement clinical decision support (CDS) technology that streamlines processes, improves hierarchical condition category (HCC) coding accuracy and reduces provider burden.

In this Q&A format conducted from an interview with Stanson Health, Melanie McGee, Director of Population Health Support Organization and Transformation at INTEGRIS, and Dr. Eric Dedeke, Ambulatory Chief Medical Informatics Officer and a board-certified family medicine physician with the health system, share insights into the partnership and the key lessons they’ve learned along the way.

What were the early signs that INTEGRIS needed a change in its workflow and documentation practices?

McGee: We realized that we weren’t getting the right data at the right time to adjust performance or identify conditions accurately. This delayed our ability to act on insights, leading to missed opportunities to improve outcomes.

Dr. Dedeke: There was also a growing recognition that primary care providers were handling too much. Managing complex workflows, coding and documentation on top of providing patient care was overwhelming, which signaled a need for solutions that could ease their workload.

When evaluating solutions, what were the most important factors in choosing Stanson Health?

McGee: We wanted more than just technology—we needed a partner who understood our challenges and could seamlessly fit into our existing operations without adding complexity. Stanson stood out not only because of their tools and capabilities, but also because they had a strong track record and could deliver meaningful results. We had been evaluating Stanson solutions for a while, and the trust we built with the team played a key role in our decision.

How did INTEGRIS approach provider engagement during the early stages of implementation?

McGee: We knew it was crucial to address provider education and any concerns upfront. Providers were worried that the alerts might interrupt workflows or require additional steps. We focused on showing them that the alerts were well-timed and meaningful.

Dr. Dedeke: We emphasized that this tool wasn’t going to overwhelm them. Operational support from both INTEGRIS and Stanson teams also helped reassure providers that the alerts were designed to support—not hinder—their daily work.

What kind of feedback did you receive from providers after the alerts were introduced?

Dr. Dedeke: The feedback was positive. Providers appreciated that the alerts were concise and actionable, not just another task. Knowing they wouldn’t be bombarded with unnecessary alerts also made them more open to using the tool effectively.

What motivated INTEGRIS to upgrade to Stanson Health’s AI-enabled CodingGuide solution, and how do you see it improving workflows?

McGee: The decision to upgrade to CodingGuide came down to two key factors: continued improvements in workflow efficiency and supporting providers in doing what is best for patients. One of the biggest advantages of the upgrade is the improved provenance- having all the relevant clinical data and context directly within the alert. This eliminates the need to search through charts, streamlines documentation and ensures that providers can act confidently and accurately in real time.

Were there any unexpected results from the partnership with Stanson Health?

McGee: One of the most surprising outcomes was the high follow rate of the alerts. Getting providers to engage with alerts can be challenging, so seeing that level of participation exceeded our expectations.

How has this partnership shaped INTEGRIS’s approach to managing VBC?

McGee: This collaboration has reinforced the importance of teamwork—not just within our care teams but also with external partners. Managing patient populations effectively requires more than individual providers; it requires a system of support that includes the right tools and partnerships.

Dr. Dedeke: We’ve learned that providers need both internal support and technology that truly aligns with their workflows. The tools we’ve implemented are just one piece of the puzzle, but they’ve helped us remain focused on what matters most—delivering quality care.

Conclusion

INTEGRIS Health’s collaboration with Stanson Health demonstrates how technology and strong partnerships can drive meaningful improvements in both care delivery and operations. By integrating Stanson’s HCC CDS module, INTEGRIS streamlined workflows, improved documentation accuracy and achieved impressive provider engagement.

As VBC continues to evolve, INTEGRIS is well-positioned to build on these results, ensuring that providers can focus less on administrative tasks and more on delivering high-quality care.
